I can add a bit of prose to the photos above.
I drove to South Dakota last Monday, and got there on Tuesday morning. My dad and I drove to Moorcroft, Wyoming that afternoon. We hunt in an area just north of there, about thirty minutes south of Devil's Tower. Legal hunting time was 6:28AM. Sunrise was 6:58AM on that date in that area, and hunting can begin thirty minutes before.
Anyway, I got mine at 6:28AM sharp. I used my trusty Cooper Arms M22 Phoenix chambered in 6.5x55 SE, which had taken two antelope prior to this trip. We encountered the band just after they woke up. I ranged it at 150 yards. I did an upper-chest shot, as usual.
By the time we drove up to it, and loaded it onto the truck, I spotted another band with a buck, and when I ranged it at 200 yards, my dad decided to take it. That was at 6:40AM, twelve minutes later. He used his Cooper Arms M52 Classic chambered in .30-06, which was a gift from me last year. This is his second antelope that he has taken with it. He also took two or three deer with it.
My dad is also hunting elk in South Dakota. We went out for a little bit last Wednesday (afternoon, after getting back to Hot Springs from antelope hunting) and Thursday, and were out all day on Saturday and Sunday. We saw only two elk, and both were on Thursday. The first was a rather large bull that was running up a hill. It kept running, and my dad never had a chance to shoot. That was early afternoon. Late afternoon, we spotted only that was stationary, and less than 75 yards away. Its left-side antler was broken. The right side was impressive, with five
points. My dad nicknamed it "five-by-broken." He decided to pass. For him, it was good enough knowing that he could have taken it. He has the rest of the month to get his elk. It would have been nice to be there when he got it.
In any case, it was a great trip.
